Facebook shares tips to improve video
As you know, Facebook is prioritising video content in its algorithm – and has done so for some time now. They’ve just published a really useful post on understanding video distribution on Facebook – what makes a good video and how you can measure the success of yours. For ages, we’ve all thought that videos on social media needed to be between 30 seconds and a minute, however, Facebook’s research shows that people value longer videos that have a storyline, so they’re encouraging you to now post videos of 3 minutes or longer.
This is great news for charities! After all we have wonderful stories to share and can definitely benefit from having more time to tell these stories rather than try cram them into under a minute. Here’s a great post on CharityComms on storytelling tips from filmmakers.
LinkedIn allows tagging in photos
Finally LinkedIn is allowing you to tag people in photos. This is a great way of notifying people of your post and letting your followers easily identify who is in the photo. At the moment you can only tag people though and not pages.
Facebook makes public comments more meaningful
Sometimes when Facebook posts get lots of comments, it can be hard to navigate them all and see which are most meaningful. Facebook has now updated its ranking algorithm and will prioritise comments that:
- have interactions from the Page or person who originally posted; or
- are from friends of the person who posted.

Facebook Pages Manager now lets you manage Instagram messages
Great news for social media managers! The Facebook Pages Manager iOS app now shows all your messages in one place – Messenger, Facebook and Instagram. This saves time having to open numerous apps to check if there are any messages or comments because not only can you read them, you can respond to them too from the app.
