Welcome to our fourth social media round-up! Here’s the latest social media news and what it means for your charity.

Twitter announces real-time tweet analytics

Although we’ve noticed it for months, Twitter recently announced real-time analytics for tweets. So when a tweet seems to go viral, you can see the retweets, replies and likes all updating in real-time on your timeline.


2. Facebook launches ‘top fan’ badges for pages

You know how there are some of your supporters who will regularly comment on your posts or reply to other’s comments in a helpful, supportive way? Perhaps they even step in when someone says something negative. Well, now you can show your thanks and appreciation by rewarding them with a top fan badge! We’re thinking what Dan’s thinking:

3. Check out when you posted Instagram stories with their calendar tool

Instagram now has a new calendar layout for stories, helping you to see when you posted them. This could help you identify how often (or little) you post stories and help you plan for them in advance.

4. Facebook pilots admin support tool for group admins

Managing a Facebook group – or groups – is really time-consuming and a lot of responsibility. Facebook said, ‘To provide group admins with more timely and personalized help, we’re piloting admin support, a dedicated place for admins to report an issue or ask a question and get a response from Facebook. We aim to respond within one business day. This feature can be found within admin tools, and is currently available to a limited number of group admins on iOS and Android in English and Spanish.’

As well as this support feature, they’ve also launched Facebook Community, where you can learn everything you need to know about growing and managing a community, how to deal with conflict, time saving tips and more.

5. Instagram launches emoji slider voting tool in stories

Instagram now offers a new interactive way to poll your followers, through stories, with an emoji slider voting feature. Simply take a photo, go to stickers, choose the emoji slider, change the emoji as appropriate and type a question.

Followers then cast their vote by sliding the emoji and they will see the average answer. You’ll be able to see how individuals answered as well as see the overall average of all responses. How is this useful for charities? You could test creatives or simply find out how much your followers understand a certain topic.
