Welcome to our first social media roundup of the latest social media news! We scoured the web and read tons of articles to share with you the most important news stories you need to know and what these updates and new features mean for your charity.

1. Twitter bookmarks – save your tweets and access them later

If you’re accessing Twitter on your mobile phone, you know the frustration of coming across an interesting link when you’re on-the-go and don’t have time to read it. Twitter announced its new feature, called ‘bookmarks’, which allows you to save your favourite tweets to access them later.

Hang on a minute… isn’t this what liking a tweet does? Bookmark it for later?

Bookmarks are different because they are private, whereas everyone can see your likes. So if you come across a new creative idea, an interesting blog post, a great thread or simply a question from a follower that you need to follow up on, you can now organise them in a brand new private list.

2. Global NGO Technology Report 2018

The annual Global NGO Technology Report has been released and it offers very useful findings around social media and charities.

It has been observed that social networks are becoming an integral part of nonprofits’ communication and fundraising strategies.

  • 95% of nonprofits agree that social media is effective for online brand awareness
  • 71% of nonprofits agree that social media is effective for fundraising
  • 25% of donors say that social media is the communication tool that most often inspires them to give

3. YouTube studio gets a refresh (with improved analytics)

YouTube wants to make it easier for everyone to make the most of their platform. That’s why they’re launching creator studio, an easy way to manage your videos, grow your community, and measure your performance. You can start being more creative while interacting with your supporters, all in one place.

Moreover, it also presents improved analytics to help you measure the performance of your videos. The updated dashboard will provide an overview of your videos, their metrics, along with personalised suggestions for your channel. This should start rolling out to everyone within the next few weeks.

4. Facebook presents the #SheMeansBusiness community finder tool

Facebook celebrated International Women’s Day by launching a new community finder tool called #SheMeansBusiness. It’s a handy tool for female entrepreneurs who want to expand their network or improve their skills in Facebook marketing.

As well as giving you the ability to find interesting communities and events in your area, it also offers a series of useful resources to improve your Facebook skills.

5. Rumour: will Twitter (finally) let us edit our tweets?

It is rumoured, from social media expert Matt Navarra of The Next Web, that Twitter is about to introduce the much-anticipated ability to edit tweets. The idea is to correct single words from any typos that we might make.
